New Zealand Managed Funds

Managed funds are investment products that offer you the freedom to invest in various assets.

What are managed funds?

With managed funds, investors' money is pooled together and the investment manager uses it to buy and manage one portfolio on behalf of all the investors within the fund. By pooling funds together and creating scale, investors can potentially access a wider choice of investment opportunities that might not be accessible if they invested directly in assets.

When you invest in a managed fund, you get assigned units in proportion to the amount of money you have invested. Managed funds are typically open-ended, which means new units are continuously created as investors join a fund, while units are cancelled once investors redeem the fund.

Managed funds are very common in New Zealand as this is how KiwiSaver operates.

A big additional advantage managed funds offer is the tax benefits associated with being PIEs.  They are also regulated by the FMA.

The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund - A NZ PIE Fund

The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund (the Fund) that enables investors to get exposure to the performance of bitcoin with the tax and administration benefits that come from being a PIE fund.

The Fund invests in offshore listed bitcoin funds and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Raise Investments Limited makes investment decisions about which ETF to buy with the objective of closely tracking the price of bitcoin,  managing the overall fees and costs of the Fund, and providing some diversification through investing in multiple ETFs.

Why invest in the Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund?

The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund provides a really easy tax-efficient way to get exposure to the performance of bitcoin.  The Fund is a regulated PIE fund just like other managed funds.  People can invest in it without the typical tax and administration hassles that come with investing directly in cryptocurrencies.

The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund is taxed under the Fair Dividend Rate (FDR) methodology which means the maximum tax an investor on a 28% PIE will pay in any given year is 1.4% (being 5% multiplied by 28%).  Investors with lower PIR tax rates will pay less tax each year.

FundRock NZ Limited (FundRock NZ) is licensed as the manager of a registered scheme under the Financial Market Conduct Act 2013 and is the issuer and manager of the Fund. Raise Investments Limited is the investment manager of the Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund.
